The new Nissan LEAF was completely redesigned in 2018, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to get excited about for the current model year. If you’re after an affordable, environmentally friendly car, the 2019 Nissan LEAF is one to keep an eye on. Read on to learn more.

Highlights of the 2019 Nissan LEAF

Performance

Nissan has long been in the fray of car companies pushing clean-car limits. This year, they’ve increased the power output and long-range variant of the LEAF by adding a larger battery pack. The upgrade to a 62kWh battery offers an estimated driving range of 226 miles on a full battery. Once depleted, it takes approximately seven hours to bring the LEAF back to full charge (on a level 2 charger), though fast-charging stations can refill the battery in around an hour.

The low hanging, more powerful battery provides excellent acceleration and feels as though it’s hugging the road, allowing for a more comfortable ride. Add the e-Pedal feature — regenerative braking used to slow you down as soon as you release the accelerator — and you have an economical vehicle that can fight for its own spot on the road.

Tech

The LEAF is loaded with all the tech that makes any forward-thinking vehicle complete, including a few unique features. Coming standard on all Nissan LEAF trims:

  • Touch screen infotainment center
  • Rearview camera
  • Auto emergency braking
  • One-pedal driving/ e-Pedal system
  • Auto climate control

The auto-climate control system can be operated through the NissanConnect app, which also gives the driver the ability to start vehicle charging and check charging status and battery level.

Select trims of the LEAF carry an array of options such as surround-view camera, Driver Attention Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Blind-Spot Monitoring, and Rear-Cross Traffic Alert. Beyond the e-Pedal system, the available ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous driving system uses lane centering and adaptive cruise control for better highway driving and comfortability. Reverse auto braking also joins this hefty list of safety features.
